Every readiness engagement ends with a handoff. A firm spends weeks learning your environment, then hands you something: a management report, a roadmap, a gap list, a set of sample controls. The question that decides whether the deal in procurement closes on time is what happens to that handoff on the Monday after, and who is holding it.

KPMG makes the handoff unusually visible. Its published description of the SOC readiness review is the most detailed we found from any Big Four firm: workshops on the control objectives, interviews and documentation review, sample controls and design examples for your environment, a review of your control proposal, and a management report with a roadmap.

Read closely, the sentence that matters is "your control proposal." The firm explains, assesses, samples and reviews. The client proposes, implements and evidences. That is a fair description of how most of the firms on this page work; KPMG simply writes it down.

So this guide compares KPMG competitors on the handoff. What does the provider hand you at the end of readiness. Who performs what the handoff asks for. Who signs the report or issues the certificate, and how independence between preparing and signing is documented. And whether anyone's fee depends on your date rather than on delivering the handoff.

The models on this page:

1. Advisory and attestation firms hand you a roadmap and later examine what you built from it; as licensed CPA firms they sign the SOC report.
2. Accredited certification bodies do the same for ISO 27001 and are barred by accreditation from building the ISMS they certify.
3. A service hands you nothing to execute: it performs the policies, controls, evidence and auditor coordination itself, and your team reviews and signs.

Nine companies like KPMG in the work they do, and one that works differently, each confirmed from its own published material: three Big Four assurance practices, a national CPA firm, three specialist assessment firms, a global certification body, and EasyAudit.

Anything about a named firm that could not be sourced to that firm appears as a question for you to ask, and every one of those questions applies to KPMG as well.

We built EasyAudit. Read our entry with that in mind; the scoring is published, and we scored ourselves on the same seven criteria as everyone else.

The verdict in a nutshell: EasyAudit is the best overall pick for regulated companies that do not want a roadmap, they want the road built, with the diagnosis free and a fee behind the date. The [Compliance Simulation](https://www.easyaudit.ai/compliance-simulation) runs on your real environment, takes about 75 minutes of scheduled time across two calls, and the report is yours either way.

Among the firms, A-LIGN is the most complete single provider from roadmap to signed report, Coalfire adds a rehearsal audit by the certification body's own staff, Schellman is the pick when SOC 2 and ISO 27001 run concurrently, and PwC leads the Big Four alternatives on SOC 2+ combined reporting.

## Why Look for Alternatives to KPMG?

Three reasons, each starting from KPMG's own published description of its readiness review rather than from anything said about the firm.

That description, from a KPMG member firm's IT attestation page, lists workshops explaining the control objectives across the Trust Services Criteria, an assessment of current readiness through interviews and documentation review, sample controls and design examples for the client's environment, a mapping of control objectives to ISO 27001, a review of the client's control proposal, and a management report summarizing steps taken with a roadmap for next steps. Here is what follows.

### The deliverable is a roadmap, and the road is yours to build

Every item in KPMG's description is explanation, assessment, sampling or review. The controls themselves are described as the client's proposal, and the output is a management report with a roadmap.

That is a precise and honest account of an advisory engagement, and it means the implementation, the policies, the evidence and the auditor liaison begin on your side the day the report lands.

If your reason for buying is that nobody internal wants to run the program, ask before you scope: after the roadmap, who builds the road, and who is accountable for the program between the examination and the next one?

### The readiness review and the attestation are separate engagements, and independence has to be documented

Under the AICPA Code's independence and nonattest-services rules, a firm that designs and implements controls generally cannot attest to those same controls where doing so impairs its independence. KPMG's model stays on the right side of that line by keeping implementation with the client, which is part of why the handoff is so explicit.

The consequence for the buyer is the same: ask KPMG, and every firm on this page that offers both, to document the independence conclusion for your combination of services in writing before you sign. A provider that never signs the opinion has removed the question.

### The engagement is shaped for enterprise and financial services scale

This is a fit problem, not a quality problem. KPMG's attestation practice is built around large regulated clients, and a workshop-based readiness review with a management report is a format designed for an organization with a compliance function that will sit in the workshops and act on the roadmap.

A 200-person insurer, a regional data center operator or a BPO with no GRC head buys the same format at the same cadence. Ask how the workshops are staffed at your size, how many people you are expected to put in the room, and what the engagement costs relative to your whole compliance budget.

None of this argues against KPMG. For a regulated financial services organization whose board already knows the firm, a KPMG roadmap carries weight in the boardroom and the attestation carries weight with customers, and the ISO 27001 mapping inside the readiness review is a genuine convenience. The rest of this guide is for the buyer who wants the road built, not drawn.

## How We Evaluated These KPMG Competitors

Seven criteria, scored one to ten and weighted, with the weights published so the arithmetic is yours to check. They follow what buyers ask before signing a readiness engagement: who performs the work, what it costs and on what terms, whether a date is committed, and how the examination is handled.

The criteria, the weights and every provider's scores are identical across every page of this series.

### Our Scoring Methodology

| **Criterion** | **Weight** | **What we looked for** |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Work performed for you versus work left on your team | 25% | Who writes the policies, maps the controls, chases the evidence and talks to the auditor. The single biggest question buyers raise before they sign. |
| Pricing clarity and commitment terms | 20% | Whether a buyer can see a program price before signing, what the second framework costs, and what happens at renewal. |
| Timeline certainty and consequence if missed | 15% | Whether the provider commits to a date, and what it costs the provider if the date slips. |
| Assurance handling and independence | 15% | Who issues the result, whether that party is a licensed CPA firm or an accredited certification body where the framework requires one, whether the provider that prepared you can also sign, and how independence is documented. |
| Multi-framework reuse | 10% | Whether the second and third frameworks reuse the controls and evidence from the first, or start a new project. |
| Environment fit | 10% | Microsoft-heavy estates, on-prem systems, data center and contact center floors, and other operations that cloud-native tooling was not built for. |
| Evidence a third party will accept | 5% | Approvals recorded with who and when, an audit trail the application cannot bypass, and read-only access for the auditor, certification body or reviewer. |

Work performed carries the heaviest weight because it is the criterion a roadmap cannot satisfy. A roadmap tells you what to build. The weeks after it, when the control proposal is yours to write and the examination is already booked, decide whether the date holds.

| **Provider** | **Work (25%)** | **Pricing (20%)** | **Timeline (15%)** | **Assurance (15%)** | **Multi-framework (10%)** | **Environment (10%)** | **Evidence (5%)** | **Weighted** |

_Weighted totals are rounded to one decimal. The score on each provider entry, the score in the comparison_ _chart, and this table reconcile. Ties are broken on the first criterion, then the second. Every provider carries_ _identical scores on every page of this series; the one exception is EasyAudit's timeline score on the NIST CSF_ _page, explained there, because no fee is at risk on CSF itself._

Each entry is organized around the handoff: what you receive at the end of readiness, who performs what it asks for, who signs, and where the model fits. Ranked by the score above.

### 1. EasyAudit

![](https://a-us.storyblok.com/f/1022609/1600x769/098cc66a65/best-pwc-competitors-01-easyaudit.webp)

**Best for:** regulated companies that do not want a roadmap, they want the road built, with the diagnosis free and a fee behind the date.

**Compliance Service Score:** 9.3/10

#### Service Overview

EasyAudit is a compliance service for organizations that have to be compliant and do not want to run compliance. A named human compliance expert leads your engagement from start to finish, the AI Compliance Officer executes the recurring work, and the platform is the shared foundation and memory both work from. One service, not three products.

![](https://a-us.storyblok.com/f/1022609/2880x1800/ea5ad91373/01-simulation-report-pwc-alternatives-companies-like-deloitte-2x.png)

Our founder came out of Big Four risk advisory, which is why we know what a readiness roadmap looks like from the inside, and why we decided to build the road instead of drawing it.

If the engagement in front of you ends with a management report and a list of controls for your team to propose, and the people who would propose them are your security, engineering and legal staff, we built it for you, and we built it for regulated companies: the ones whose customers, regulators, insurers or contracts require proof, in whatever industry that pressure arrives.

Two things set us apart in this guide:

1. There is no handoff. The Compliance Simulation, free, on your real environment, returns readiness per framework, every material gap, the work required, a dated timeline and the investment, and then we perform the work rather than recommending it.
2. The date is locked at signature and our fee is behind it.

#### The 3 Readiness Problems We Built EasyAudit to Solve

#### The handoff lands on the people who were busiest before it arrived

A roadmap assumes a team to walk it. In most of the regulated mid-market companies we work with, that team is one overloaded security lead, an engineering manager hired to build product, and whoever drew the short straw on the policy binder. The readiness review is paid for, the management report is excellent, and the controls are still unproposed six weeks later.

We take the handoff off the table. Our AI Compliance Officer drafts every policy from your environment, maps the controls, collects the evidence and prescribes the exact fix for every gap. Our named compliance expert checks every piece of work and coordinates your auditor directly. Your team reviews and signs. The work does not disappear. It changes owners.

#### The diagnosis costs money before anyone commits to a fix

Workshops, interviews, documentation review and a management report are billed as an engagement before a single control is in place. The buyer approves a meaningful spend to learn the size of the next spend, and the second number is unknown until the first deliverable lands.

The Compliance Simulation does the diagnostic work free. Two 30-minute calls, about 75 minutes of scheduled time, read-only connections to your real systems, and a report with your readiness, your gaps, your price and your date. The report is yours either way. Diagnose first, commit second.

#### No one's fee rides on the date

The readiness fee is earned when the report is delivered. The attestation fee is earned when the examination is performed. Whether your organization was ready on the date the customer or regulator needed is on neither invoice.

Ours is. Audit-ready and submitted to an independent auditor or accredited certification body by the date committed at signature, or you do not pay. The [Audit-Ready Guarantee](https://www.easyaudit.ai/audit-ready-guarantee) applies to eligible engagements and covers readiness and submission. The auditor or certification body alone determines the result, and that boundary sits beside the guarantee every time we state it.

#### Frameworks Covered

SOC 1, [SOC 2](https://www.easyaudit.ai/frameworks/soc-2), [ISO 27001](https://www.easyaudit.ai/frameworks/iso-27001), ISO 42001, ISO 9001, NIST CSF 2.0 and CMMC, on one control library. KPMG's readiness review maps SOC control objectives to ISO 27001 as part of the roadmap; here the mapping is the operating model.

A control implemented once satisfies up to seven frameworks, one evidence set covers all mappings, and the program carries 60 to 70 percent fewer controls than running frameworks in parallel.

#### Pricing and Engagement Model

No readiness review fee and no rate card. The Simulation Report is the proposal: readiness per framework, gaps, the work, the timeline, the investment and a written recommendation from the expert who ran it. The investment is fixed at signature. For a directional figure beforehand, use the [cost calculator](https://www.easyaudit.ai/compliance-calculator).

Compare it to the whole advisory line, not to a software seat: the readiness review, the hours during implementation, and the internal time between engagements. We replace all three. Auditor and certification body fees stay separate, because an independent auditor issues the result. We are not the lowest-priced option on this page, and the Tradeoffs section says so.

#### The Audit-Ready Guarantee

Audit-ready and submitted to an independent auditor or accredited certification body by the committed date, or you do not pay, for eligible engagements. It covers readiness and submission, never the opinion or the certificate, which no provider can promise.

The order of operations makes it possible: the Simulation scores readiness on your real environment before we commit, so the date is calculated rather than estimated. [Read the](https://www.easyaudit.ai/audit-ready-guarantee) [guarantee](https://www.easyaudit.ai/audit-ready-guarantee).

#### What Stays On Your Team

Business knowledge, review of key decisions, and signatures where your authority is required. Under ten hours a year in steady state, because the recurring work transfers to us instead of shrinking on your calendar. We write the policies; your team reviews and signs. Controls are accepted in one click with who approved and when recorded.

A 15-minute meeting closes three to four evidence items. Signed-statement templates mean you never hit a dead end.

#### Setup

A mutual NDA the same day. Documents dropped into a workspace without cleanup. A scoping questionnaire. Read-only connections, with temporary credentials and OAuth, live on the first 30-minute call. The environment is pre-built before your decision makers join the second call, where they see readiness per framework, gaps, scope, price and the committed date on their own data. About 75 minutes of scheduled time, with no workshop series to staff.

#### Tradeoffs

A board that already knows KPMG, or a procurement function that requires a Big Four letterhead, has a legitimate reason to choose it, and we compete on the date and the economics rather than on brand. Licensed CPA firms on this page can sign the SOC 2 opinion and accredited bodies can issue the ISO certificate; we never issue either.

An organization with a compliance function that wants to run the program itself and use a roadmap as its plan is well served by an advisory review. A buyer who needs tax, strategy or technology implementation alongside readiness has a reason to consolidate with a large firm.

We are not built for a 1 to 10 person company chasing a single framework with no external pressure. We cost more than a software seat, and the guarantee covers readiness and submission by the committed date for eligible engagements, not the result.

#### Support

One named compliance expert owns your engagement end to end: sets the plan, checks every piece of work, deals with your auditor or certification body directly, and checks in with you every two days. Where controls require it, they attend your facility; data center floors, contact center floors and FDA-regulated manufacturing are in scope. You never have to log in; you always can.

#### Mini Case Study

Finsider runs an AI due diligence platform for private equity firms, investors and auditors, exactly the kind of financial-services client base where a KPMG roadmap would feel like the natural purchase. Its enterprise clients' risk, legal and compliance teams had started requesting security audits and vendor assessments, and procurement cycles were slowing on the unanswered questions.

There was no roadmap handoff: we ran the SOC 2 program, from the risk assessment and the policies written for Finsider's environment to evidence collection and coordination with the CPA firm, while the Finsider team stayed on its clients. The report is now part of how Finsider sells. [Read the Finsider story](https://www.easyaudit.ai/case-studies/finsider)

### 2. A-LIGN

![](https://a-us.storyblok.com/f/1022609/1600x767/8026d70a21/best-pwc-competitors-02-a-lign.webp)

**Best for:** buyers who want the readiness assessment, the evidence platform and the signed report or certificate from one firm, so the handoff never leaves the building.

**Compliance Service Score:** 7.7/10

A-LIGN keeps the handoff inside one firm. The readiness assessment, the evidence platform and the signed SOC report or ISO certificate all come from A-LIGN, which describes itself as the top SOC 2 issuer in the world, with more than 3,500 SOC 2 assessments, over 100 SOC 2 auditors, and accreditation as an ISO 27001, ISO 27701 and ISO 22301 certification body.

#### Service Overview

What you receive at the end of readiness is a list of high-risk control gaps, which A-LIGN recommends first-time candidates obtain before scheduling an examination, and access to A-SCEND, its own platform, where evidence and audit requests are centralized and submissions can be reused across frameworks. A-LIGN then performs the examination or the certification audit. Customers may bring their own compliance tooling; A-LIGN partners with the major platforms.

#### Pricing and Engagement Model

Quote only for the assessment and the audit; A-LIGN publishes no rates. What it does publish is a free tier of A-SCEND covering automation and audit-readiness features, so the tooling can cost nothing while the two engagements are priced separately. Ask what the readiness deliverable contains beyond the gap list, and how the audit is priced across a three-year ISO cycle.

#### What Stays On Your Team

Closing the gaps on the list. A-LIGN identifies them and later tests whether they were closed; your team or a separate provider does the closing. A-SCEND organizes evidence; it does not produce it.

#### Who Signs the Report

A-LIGN, as a licensed CPA firm for SOC reports and an accredited body for ISO certificates. Since one firm assesses and attests, ask for the independence conclusion in writing for your combination of services; accreditation and AICPA rules require A-LIGN to be able to produce it.

#### Tradeoffs

Continuity is the case for A-LIGN: one provider from the first gap list to the signed result, with free evidence tooling between and FedRAMP or HITRUST available alongside. The case against is the same as for every advisory model here: the remediation is yours, and the assessment opens a bill rather than closing one.

Published reviews split on billing; one Gartner Peer Insights reviewer called pricing reasonable, another criticized billing on a disputed audit date.

### 3. Coalfire

![](https://a-us.storyblok.com/f/1022609/1600x763/92dc6e1b29/best-pwc-competitors-03-coalfire.webp)

**Best for:** organizations that want a rehearsal audit by the certification body's own staff between the readiness handoff and the real audit, particularly cloud service providers and multi-standard ISO programs.

**Compliance Service Score:** 7.5/10

Coalfire inserts a step between the handoff and the audit that the other firms do not describe: a mock audit conducted by certification body staff. It delivers more than 500 SOC reports a year through Coalfire Controls, a licensed CPA affiliate, and certifies management systems through Coalfire Certification, accredited by ANAB since 2015 and UKAS since 2019.

Three quarters of its SOC work is for cloud service providers, by its own count.

#### Service Overview

For SOC 2, the readiness assessment identifies and documents controls, determines gaps and recommends remediation before a Type I or Type II report. For ISO 27001, a lead auditor facilitates the readiness assessment and then the mock audit before Stage 1 and Stage 2.

Compliance Essentials, Coalfire's platform, coordinates evidence across 80-plus frameworks, and combined reports such as SOC 2 with HIPAA or CSA STAR reduce repeat testing.

#### Pricing and Engagement Model

Quote only, and Coalfire's AWS Marketplace listings for SOC and ISO readiness require a quote as well. Ask for the readiness assessment and the mock audit priced separately, and for the three-year ISO lifecycle priced in full.

#### What Stays On Your Team

Everything between the assessment and the audit. Coalfire documents, recommends and rehearses; the customer implements. One published customer account describes engaging a separate firm for the ISO risk assessment and internal audit before Coalfire's certification audit.

#### Who Signs the Report

Two Coalfire entities: Coalfire Controls, a licensed CPA firm, signs SOC reports, and Coalfire Certification, accredited by ANAB and UKAS, issues ISO certificates. Where one organization both advises and attests, ask which entity will sign yours and how the independence conclusion is recorded.

#### Tradeoffs

Coalfire suits a cloud service provider or an organization certifying to several ISO standards at once, and the mock audit is a real advantage for a first-time candidate who wants to see the examination before it counts.

For a mid-market insurer or data center operator the depth costs more than needed, the model is advisory, and the certifying arm cannot close the gaps its readiness work finds.

### 4. Schellman

![](https://a-us.storyblok.com/f/1022609/1600x768/b61f7595c7/best-pwc-competitors-04-schellman.webp)

**Best for:** organizations taking SOC 2 and ISO 27001 through at the same time under one accredited name, where the readiness and attest entities are legally separate.

**Compliance Service Score:** 7.4/10

Schellman handles the independence question structurally. Schellman Compliance performs non-attest readiness and advisory; Schellman & Company performs attestation and ISO certification. The firm issues more than 2,000 SOC reports a year, holds ANAB and UKAS accreditation for ISO 27001, and carries ANAB accreditation across ISO 27701, 20000-1, 9001 and 22301, with first-mover accreditation for ISO 42001.

#### Service Overview

The handoff from the readiness entity is a gap assessment with recommended remediation. The attest entity then performs the SOC 2 examination, or Stage 1 and Stage 2 for ISO 27001, and issues the result. A single-assessor approach lets one organization take SOC 2 and ISO 27001 through concurrently. Schellman sells no platform and works with all the major ones.

#### Pricing and Engagement Model

Schellman publishes no rates; engagements are priced to the criteria selected, the report type and the environment's size. Ask for the readiness handoff and the examination as separate numbers, and for ISO ask for Stage 1, Stage 2, two surveillance audits and recertification on one page.

#### What Stays On Your Team

All of it. The readiness entity advises; the attest entity examines. Implementation, policies and evidence collection between the two are your team's or a third party's.

#### Who Signs the Report

Schellman & Company, as a licensed CPA firm and an accredited certification body. The two-entity structure is Schellman's independence documentation; ask for it as it applies to your engagement.

#### Tradeoffs

Schellman is the pick when SOC 2 and ISO 27001 must run at the same time under one name your customers recognize, and when ISO 42001 sits alongside. It is not a readiness service in the performing sense, there is no committed readiness date, and the assessment fee buys advice. Plan early around peak Q4 and Q1 scheduling.

### 5. BSI

![](https://a-us.storyblok.com/f/1022609/1600x764/7b9631314b/best-pwc-competitors-05-bsi.webp)

**Best for:** organizations whose customers check the name on the ISO 27001 certificate, and that are prepared to buy readiness from a separate practice.

**Compliance Service Score:** 6.8/10

BSI is the body enterprise procurement teams expect to see on an ISO certificate, and its readiness handoff comes from a different door than its audit. BSI Assurance certifies; a separate BSI consulting practice sells ISMS implementation, internal audits and SOC 2 readiness, kept apart so the certifying arm never advises on an ISMS it certifies. BSI appears on Deloitte's own ISMS certificates in several regions, by Deloitte's announcements.

#### Service Overview

BSI Assurance performs Stage 1, Stage 2 and the surveillance and recertification audits across ISO 27001, ISO 27701, ISO 22301, ISO 9001 and ISO 42001. BSI's consulting practice, per its own pages, offers ISMS development and enhancement, risk assessment, governance and policy creation, internal audits for certification readiness, and SOC 2 readiness aligned to the AICPA Trust Services Criteria.

#### Pricing and Engagement Model

Quote only for both practices. BSI publishes no rates. Ask for the full three-year ISO cycle from the certifying arm and, separately, the consulting scope if you want implementation help; they arrive as two engagements and two invoices.

#### What Stays On Your Team

Engage only BSI Assurance and the handoff is simply the audit schedule; the ISMS is entirely yours to build and run. Engage BSI Consulting as well and implementation can be scoped, with staffing kept separate from the certifying arm to protect impartiality.

#### Who Signs the Report

BSI Assurance, for ISO certificates. BSI is not a CPA firm and does not issue SOC 2 reports; its SOC 2 work is readiness, and the report comes from a licensed auditor you appoint.

#### Tradeoffs

BSI is the right choice when the certificate's issuer is what your customers check and you have an ISMS or will build one with a separate provider. The certifying arm cannot close gaps, by design, the consulting arm is its own scope and cost, and no readiness date is committed.

### 6. PwC

![](https://a-us.storyblok.com/f/1022609/1600x773/8272917062/best-deloitte-competitors-06-pwc.webp)

**Best for:** organizations that need a Big Four letterhead and a SOC 2+ report folding NIST, HITRUST or GDPR criteria into one examination.

**Compliance Service Score:** 6.6/10

PwC's handoff is described on its own SOC reporting page as gap identification and improvement recommendations, aligned to the attestation framework, ahead of a SOC 1, SOC 2 or SOC 3 report.

Its distinctive option is SOC 2+ combined reporting, which folds NIST, HITRUST or GDPR criteria into one examination, and its own guidance is to start with the controls that matter most to customers and expand scope over time.

#### Service Overview

Per PwC, the readiness assessment precedes the examination and produces recommendations the organization acts on before the SOC report. The report can be shared with customers and other auditors. For ISO 27001, PwC member firms publish gap analysis, implementation and readiness services, with certification through an accredited PwC entity in some regions where independence requirements allow.

#### Pricing and Engagement Model

Quote only, scoped by engagement. PwC publishes no rates for SOC readiness or examination work. Ask what the assessment costs and produces, and whether the same team or a separate one performs the examination.

#### What Stays On Your Team

All of it. The recommendations are the deliverable; remediation, policies, evidence and the program between readiness and examination are the customer's to perform or to source elsewhere.

#### Who Signs the Report

PwC, as a licensed CPA firm, for SOC reports. For ISO 27001, PwC's own material conditions certification through its accredited entity on independence requirements. Ask for the conclusion in writing.

#### Tradeoffs

PwC fits an organization that needs a Big Four letterhead, already has PwC as financial auditor, or needs a SOC 2+ report combining criteria in one examination. The handoff is diagnosis and recommendations, the work returns to your team when each engagement ends, and scope is designed to grow over time rather than to close on one date.

### 7. BDO

![](https://a-us.storyblok.com/f/1022609/1600x766/669b337ab2/best-pwc-competitors-06-bdo.webp)

**Best for:** organizations that want a national CPA firm to give them an estimate before a proposal, and a readiness assessment before the report.

**Compliance Service Score:** 6.6/10

BDO puts a free step before the paid handoff. Its own pages describe a compliance consultation and a SOC 2 report estimate first, then a readiness assessment to identify and plan the rectification of gaps, then the audited report. It issues SOC 1, 2, 2+ and 3 reports under SSAE 18 and its Canadian equivalent.

#### Service Overview

Per BDO, the practice evaluates the systems involved in processing data, including cloud platforms, SaaS, infrastructure, software, data streams and financial systems, across security, privacy, confidentiality, availability and processing integrity. The readiness handoff is a plan for rectifying identified gaps, which the organization executes before the examination.

#### Pricing and Engagement Model

Quote only, but with a free initial consultation and a report estimate published before scoping, more than most firms here offer. Ask what the readiness assessment costs beyond the consultation and how the Type II observation period is priced.

#### What Stays On Your Team

The rectification the plan describes. BDO identifies the gaps and helps plan the fixes; your team performs them.

#### Who Signs the Report

BDO signs, as a licensed CPA firm. Where BDO both plans the rectification and examines the result, ask how the two engagements are staffed and how the independence conclusion is recorded.

#### Tradeoffs

BDO fits an organization that wants a national CPA name without Big Four scale and a number before a proposal. The structure is still advisory and attest: the work stays with your team, and no readiness date is committed. BDO's pages reviewed do not describe an ISO 27001 certification offering; ISO buyers should confirm scope directly.

### 8. Deloitte

![](https://a-us.storyblok.com/f/1022609/1600x768/fea2b15cc4/best-soc-2-compliance-services-12-deloitte.webp)

**Best for:** organizations where the Deloitte name is a procurement requirement or Deloitte already audits the financials, especially with FedRAMP or HITRUST in the mix.

**Compliance Service Score:** 6.4/10

Deloitte's handoff is described more briefly than KPMG's or PwC's. Its third-party assurance page frames the offering as advising on control effectiveness and performing attestation engagements, for SOC 1 and SOC 2, with FedRAMP and HITRUST assessments alongside, as one part of a broader compliance and conformance program.

#### Service Overview

Per Deloitte, third-party attestation and readiness services help organizations demonstrate the design and effectiveness of controls to customers, business partners and regulators. Readiness advises before the examination; attestation produces the report. Deloitte's ISO 27001 advisory offering is published on regional member-firm pages rather than its US site.

#### Pricing and Engagement Model

Quote only, scoped by engagement. Deloitte publishes no rates. Ask what the readiness engagement costs, what it produces, and how the attestation is scoped and priced separately.

#### What Stays On Your Team

Everything the advice points to. Deloitte advises on control effectiveness and later examines; the implementation, policies, evidence and day-to-day program between the two sit with your team or another provider.

#### Who Signs the Report

Deloitte signs SOC reports as a licensed CPA firm; ISO certificates come from a separate accredited body. Where Deloitte performs both readiness and attestation, ask for the written independence conclusion.

#### Tradeoffs

Deloitte is the name procurement teams supply before you ask, and that is a sound reason to choose it when Deloitte already audits your financials or FedRAMP and HITRUST sit alongside SOC 2. The engagement is scaled for enterprise, the handoff is advice, and no readiness date is committed.

### 9. EY

![](https://a-us.storyblok.com/f/1022609/1600x768/09582465cb/best-pwc-competitors-09-ey.webp)

**Best for:** organizations that want one Big Four firm for the readiness assessment, the SOC report and, through EY CertifyPoint, the ISO certificate.

**Compliance Service Score:** 6.2/10

EY pairs its readiness handoff with something the other Big Four firms do not publish on their global pages: a dedicated, globally accredited ISO certification body, EY CertifyPoint. By its own figures EY issues more than 3,000 SOC reports to more than 900 clients a year, so SOC attestation and ISO certification can run through one firm across two practices.

#### Service Overview

Per EY, the readiness assessment typically includes a review of existing controls, a gap analysis, documentation evaluation and actionable recommendations to address gaps before a SOC examination. The attestation practice examines controls against SOC 1, SOC 2 or ISAE 3402 and issues the report; EY CertifyPoint performs ISO management system certification with surveillance audits across the three-year cycle.

#### Pricing and Engagement Model

Quote only, scoped by engagement. EY publishes no rates. Ask what the readiness assessment costs, what its recommendations document contains, and how CertifyPoint certification is priced and scheduled separately.

#### What Stays On Your Team

The gaps the analysis identifies. EY reviews, analyzes and recommends; your team implements, documents and evidences, and accreditation rules keep CertifyPoint from advising on the ISMS it certifies.

#### Who Signs the Report

Two EY parties: the attestation practice signs SOC reports as a licensed CPA firm, and EY CertifyPoint, a dedicated accredited body, issues ISO certificates. Ask how independence between the readiness assessment and each of those is recorded for your engagement.

#### Tradeoffs

EY fits an organization that wants SOC attestation and ISO 27001 certification coordinated through one Big Four firm, and one whose customers or board expect the name. The handoff is a gap analysis with recommendations, not a program; no readiness date is committed, and the model is built for enterprise engagements.

## How We Built This Guide

The starting point was KPMG's own description of its readiness review, because it names the handoff plainly: the firm reviews the client's control proposal, and the deliverable is a management report with a roadmap. Everything on this page is organized to answer what happens after that handoff, for every provider a buyer might consider instead.

The sources are the firms' own SOC and ISO 27001 pages and accreditation announcements, read in October 2026. KPMG's readiness and ISO descriptions come from member-firm pages and are labeled as such. No firm publishes rates, so none are attributed; the market ranges in the pricing section come from third-party guides and say so.

Anything about a named firm that could not be sourced to that firm was turned into a question. Companies similar to KPMG named in third-party guides whose SOC 2 or ISO 27001 readiness offering could not be confirmed from their own sites are not on this page.

EasyAudit was scored on the same seven criteria and weights as every other provider, and every provider carries the same scores on every page of this series.

## How To Choose Between KPMG and the Alternatives

Six questions, in the order the handoff raises them. Put every one of them to KPMG too.

### Step 1: Separate What the Provider Does From What Your Team Does

Ask every provider for a written split: who writes the policies, maps the controls, remediates a failing control, collects evidence, and talks to the auditor between the readiness report and the examination, with hours per week expected from your team in month two. KPMG's own readiness description makes its split explicit; ask every KPMG competitor for the same clarity.

If "who fixes it" resolves to your engineer, that engineer is part of the price.

### Step 2: Confirm Who Will Sign the Report and Whether Independence Is Documented

SOC 2 reports are signed by licensed CPA firms under AICPA standards; ISO 27001 certificates by accredited certification bodies. Ask which entity signs yours, whether it also prepared you, and how the independence conclusion is documented for that combination. Some firms solve it by structure, as Schellman does; some keep implementation with the client, as KPMG's description does; one provider here never signs at all.

### Step 3: Ask What the Readiness Assessment Costs and What It Produces

A management report and a roadmap. A gap list. Sample controls. Get the deliverable described in writing before you approve the fee, and ask the one question about it that matters: on the Monday after it lands, who proposes and implements the controls it describes?

Then compare it to the one option on this page that does the same diagnostic work free, on your real environment, with the report yours either way.

### Step 4: Map Every Framework You Will Need in the Next 24 Months

SOC 2 for the enterprise deal, ISO 27001 for the international tenant, ISO 42001 if you ship AI features, NIST CSF 2.0 or CMMC for government-adjacent work.

KPMG's readiness review maps SOC to ISO 27001, which is useful; ask every provider the harder follow-up: when the second framework arrives, is it a second engagement, and what percentage of controls and evidence carries over? One control library serving up to seven frameworks turns the second framework into another mapping rather than another project.

### Step 5: Ask What Happens to the Work When the Engagement Ends

Readiness reviews end with the report. Examinations describe a period and end. Ask who is accountable for the program between this examination and the next, who detects a failing control in month seven, and who redoes the readiness work when a new framework arrives. If the answer is your team, the roadmap was a snapshot, and the months between snapshots are yours.

### Step 6: Put the Date and the Consequence in Writing

Ask for a committed readiness date and what the provider forfeits if it slips. Advisory firms decline both, because their fees are earned on delivering the review and performing the examination regardless of your outcome.

EasyAudit locks the date at signature and forfeits its fee if the date is missed, with the boundary beside it: readiness and submission are guaranteed, and the independent auditor or certification body determines the result.

## SOC 2 and ISO 27001 Readiness Pricing and Engagement Models in 2026

Readiness is priced three ways on this page. The quickest way to tell them apart is to ask what the first invoice buys.

**A paid review, then a separately priced examination.** KPMG, PwC, Deloitte, EY, BDO, Schellman, A-LIGN and Coalfire scope readiness as its own engagement.

Market ranges from third-party guides: $10,000 to $40,000 for an external SOC 2 readiness assessment depending on size, $150 to $300 an hour for remediation help, and $15,000 to $50,000 or more for the Type II examination, with Vanta's own SOC 2 cost guide putting Big Four audits for large enterprises in the low six figures.

For ISO 27001, add Stage 1, Stage 2, two surveillance audits and recertification over three years. Whatever sits between the review and the examination is either a further scope or your team's calendar.

**Certification priced by one practice, readiness by another.** BSI Assurance quotes the certification audits; BSI's consulting practice quotes implementation and readiness separately, kept apart to protect impartiality.

**No review fee, a fixed investment, a fee at risk.** EasyAudit runs the Compliance Simulation free on your own environment, fixes the investment and the readiness date at signature, and forfeits its fee if the date is missed. Auditor and certification body fees remain separate, because an independent auditor issues the result.

### The questions buyers ask about the handoff, answered

**"Our board knows KPMG. Why would we look elsewhere?"** You may not need to. Ask KPMG what the readiness review hands you, who proposes and implements the controls afterward, and whether it can also sign given the independence rules. Then compare those answers on the date and the total cost, including your team's hours, against a provider that performs the work.

**"How long will it take and what will it cost?"** With an advisory review, the roadmap answers the first half after you have paid for it, and the second half arrives as a further scope. The Simulation answers both on your own data before you sign, in about 75 minutes of scheduled time.

**"The review maps SOC to ISO 27001. Isn't that multi-framework?"** It is a useful map. Ask whether the second framework is a second engagement and what carries over. With one control library, one evidence set maps to both and the program carries 60 to 70 percent fewer controls.

**"What happens after the engagement ends?"** With an advisory firm, the program returns to your team until the next engagement. With EasyAudit, after the first audit, 3,950+ continuous monitoring checks keep the program true between examinations and the named expert stays accountable.

**"We tried this before and the roadmap sat in a drawer."** That is the model working as designed, not a failure of the firm. The Simulation is a near-zero-risk diagnostic on your real environment, free, and if you proceed the work transfers to us and stays transferred.

## Key Capabilities to Look for in a SOC 2 and ISO 27001 Readiness Provider

### 1. A Handoff With No Work Attached

If the readiness deliverable is a roadmap, a management report or a gap list, the work starts when it lands. Look for a provider whose readiness output is followed by performance: policies written from your environment, controls mapped, evidence collected, auditor coordinated, with your team reviewing and signing rather than proposing and implementing.

### 2. A Diagnosis You See Before You Pay

If the first invoice is for finding out how far from ready you are, you are buying the diagnosis blind. Look for readiness scored on your real environment, gaps prioritized, and a price and date attached, before the contract. A free Simulation that produces that report removes the reason to pay for a review.

### 3. One Control Library Across Frameworks

If the roadmap maps SOC 2 to ISO 27001 but the second framework still arrives as a second engagement, the mapping is a diagram rather than an operating model. Look for one library every framework maps into, so a control implemented once satisfies SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 42001 and NIST CSF 2.0 wherever they ask for it.

Ask what share of controls and evidence carries over from the first framework to the second; EasyAudit's program carries 60 to 70 percent fewer controls than the same frameworks run in parallel.

### 4. Accountability That Outlives the Engagement

If the engagement team disbands at the examination, month seven has no owner. Look for a named person who owns the program between examinations, checks every piece of work and answers to a date, with monitoring that detects a failing control the day it fails rather than at the next review.

### 5. Evidence an Auditor Accepts, With Clean Separation

Evidence the examiner rejects moves the date, whoever prepared it. Look for approvals that record who accepted a control and when, an audit trail enforced at the database layer so the application cannot bypass it, evidence traced to the source system rather than a screenshot, and a read-only auditor view: the examiner looks through, but cannot touch. Ask whether independent CPA auditors were involved in designing the evidence standards.

### 6. A Fee That Rides on Your Date

If the provider is paid on delivering the review and performing the examination whether or not you were ready when it mattered, the timeline is advisory too. Look for a readiness date locked at signature and a stated consequence for missing it, with the boundary beside it: no one can promise the opinion or the certificate, and a provider that claims to should be questioned.

## Which Option Is Right for Your Organization?

If you want the readiness assessment and the signed result from one specialist firm, and you have a team to execute the handoff, A-LIGN, Coalfire or Schellman, with Schellman when SOC 2 and ISO 27001 must run together and Coalfire when a rehearsal audit before the real one matters. BDO if you want an estimate before a proposal from a national CPA firm.

If your customers require a Big Four name or your financial auditor is one, ask KPMG, PwC, Deloitte or EY the six questions above and compare the answers.

KPMG publishes the most detailed readiness review and maps it to ISO 27001; PwC publishes the clearest SOC 2+ combined reporting and, per its member-firm material, certifies ISO 27001 through an accredited PwC entity in some regions where independence allows; EY operates a dedicated global certification body, EY CertifyPoint. If the ISO certificate's issuer is what your customers check, BSI.

If the handoff is the problem, because nobody internal is going to propose, implement and evidence the controls on the roadmap, choose the provider that runs the diagnosis free, performs the work, and puts its fee behind the date. That is EasyAudit. [Request a Demo](https://www.easyaudit.ai/demo) and compare on your own numbers.

## Is EasyAudit Worth It?

Measured against a readiness review alone, only if you intend to execute what the review recommends. If a roadmap and a management report are what you want and your compliance function will walk the road, an advisory engagement is the rational purchase and the review fee is a fair price for expert judgment.

Measured against the whole engagement, the answer changes. Add the review fee. Add the hours during implementation, whether the firm's or your engineers'. Add the second framework scoped as a second review. Add the months between examinations when the engagement has closed and the roadmap is yours again, and the deal that waits while your team catches up.

Against Autonomous Compliance, consultants and human-centric tools cost ten to a hundred times more manual hours, and not one of them puts a fee at risk on your date.

Buy EasyAudit when the outcome is the purchase and the work is what you want to stop doing. The Simulation exists so you can test that on your own environment before any money changes hands, which is what a readiness review was supposed to do all along. Compliance runs on someone's time. We changed whose.

## FAQs

### Who are KPMG's main competitors for SOC 2 and ISO 27001 readiness in 2026?

The other Big Four assurance practices (PwC, Deloitte, EY), national CPA firms such as BDO, specialist firms that assess and sign (A-LIGN, Schellman, Coalfire), certification bodies such as BSI for ISO 27001, and readiness services such as EasyAudit that perform the work and never sign. This page ranks them on one scorecard.

### Can the firm that prepares us for SOC 2 also issue the report?

Within limits. Under AICPA independence rules a firm that designs and implements controls generally cannot attest to those controls where doing so impairs its independence, which is why KPMG's readiness review keeps implementation with the client. Ask any firm offering both for its written independence conclusion first.

### How much should a SOC 2 or ISO 27001 readiness engagement cost?

No firm here publishes rates. Third-party guides put an external readiness assessment at $10,000 to $40,000 by size, remediation help at $150 to $300 an hour, and the Type II examination at $15,000 to $50,000 or more, with Big Four audits reaching low six figures. EasyAudit charges nothing for the Simulation.

### What is the difference between an audit firm, a compliance platform and a readiness service?

An audit firm assesses readiness and, as a licensed CPA firm, examines and signs the report; the remediation between is yours. A platform is a workspace your team operates. A readiness service performs the work and coordinates the independent auditor, who signs. Each answers "who does the work" differently.

### Do we need a Big 4 firm to be credible with enterprise customers?

Sometimes, so ask the customers requesting your report. Any licensed CPA firm's SOC 2 report is valid, and enterprise procurement teams accept specialist and national firms every day. Where a customer names a Big Four firm for the signature, the readiness work can still be performed by a provider that never signs.

### Can any provider guarantee that we will pass the audit?

No, and any provider implying otherwise should be questioned. The independent CPA auditor or accredited certification body alone determines the result, for every provider on this page. What EasyAudit guarantees is readiness: audit-ready and submitted by the committed date, or you do not pay, for eligible engagements.
